Review of To Be Takei (2014) by Matt H — 13 Nov 2014
At first it seems like an odd choice for a documentary, but Takei manages to be interesting enough and godamn likable enough that he carries what could be a rather bland film. He's led a more interesting and more important life than most actors, and it was interesting to hear about his struggles for reperations for Japanese internment (which he experienced as a child) and gay rights.
We also see Takei's story as an Asian in Hollywood, and his unexpected role as a king of the internet. Takei is one of the most delightful personalities in Hollywood, and even if you don't think you'd be interested in his story, his charm will make you interested in a story that is actually worth hearing.
