Review of Tideland (2005) by Nicolas B — 25 Apr 2008
"They're my friends. They've got names, you know." It gets more beautiful and less creepy every time I watch it. Jodelle Ferland is fantastic. It's a movie that celebrates a horrible period in a little girl's life and it's understandable that a lot of people don't connect to that concept (bad things? little girl? celebrate?).
But I find it wonderful - it's beautiful because you know she's gonna be okay in the end (and probably more interesting than a more protected child to boot). It's about the strength of children, something we hear too little about.
