Review of The Wall (2017) by Garry A — 02 Aug 2017
The sniper role always seems a tad over glamourised in the media, be it film or video game. Really, it's just a game of cat and mouse, with some trigonometry thrown in for a little extra boredom. It is some surprise then, that Doug Liman has produced a neat spin on the 'genre'. Set in one location, almost in real-time, it is basically a stand-off between two rival snipers, where very little happens, yet events remain compelling.
After the first act, you wonder if there will be enough to hold your interest, but a neat twist is thrown into the mix, and what really boils down to two characters conversing via radio, for the remaining hour, is never as boring as it sounds. The writer could probably have dug a little deeper into the political situation in Iraq, but it's probably too superficial a film for any deeper meaning.
Still, worth a watch.
