Review of The Vast of Night (2019) by Scraper — 02 Aug 2020
Period-correct eyeglasses and settings are all you need to stimulate critics, but the baffling absence of any point had me dumbfounded. Some of the scenes were fixed shots that lasted so long I wondered if there was anything I missed - either from sheer boredom or the mesmerizing effect of watching someone in the same position for minutes on end.
The script plods on in linear fashion, meeting a few new people along the way whom add incredibly dull monologues that never tie into the plot - a plot that was simply missing. It's like dumping air into an empty canyon.
All actions and conversations amount to zero meaning or consequence. It was pretty amazing how terrible it was.
