Review of The Town that Dreaded Sundown (2014) by Alex B — 24 Oct 2014
As someone who's a big fan of the original 1976 film, I approached this reboot with a certain level of apprehension, primarily due to the delayed release date and the generally negative critical reception that it received from numerous different film festivals.
Upon finally watching it though, I was surprised that I actually ended up rather enjoying it. Plot-wise, it's nothing terribly original and the ending is incredibly flimsy, but the performances are good, it's shot-well and creative with its camerawork and there's some good gore and some solid moments of tension and atmosphere.
I enjoyed it for the most part and I'd recommended it if you're looking for a fun, stylish slasher film this Halloween. You could definitely do much worse with what horror films are out now theatrically.
(I'm looking at you Annabelle and Ouija, directly in both of your stupid eyes.).
