Review of The Specials (2000) by Ka M — 18 Sep 2010
Just falls short of being a really good film. Not all superhero movies need an action finale, but this one did. It's a character piece with no action at all, so go in eyes opened.
In Mystery Men the action finale gave the characters relevance - after we laughed at them all movie long, we found out that the losers were just good enough to occasionally have their day, and their efforts made sense. The Specials are actually more powerful than the Mystery Men, but look the most inept of the two groups.
It was an enjoyable watch, with the low points not too intrusive on what is a compentently made piece of work. Woeful box office is not deserve.
