Review of The Silent House (2010) by Matthew M — 29 Dec 2011
It's technical achievements are far superior to its unoriginal and predictable storyline, but "The Silent House" still remains an innovative and great horror film, following in the footsteps of other Latin chillers, such as The Orphanage and The Devil's Backbone.
The lack of gore is remisicent of Amenabar's The Others and is commendable, and the shortage of jump shocks is a welcome change, but the most fascinating aspect (and, indeed, the most celebrated) is the single take in which the movie was filmed; from this, the acting is tremoundous, the atmosphere as intense as any horror film I can think of, and the creepiness matched by none.
It's a must-see, if only for the technical brilliance.
