Review of The Short Game (2013) by Tony D — 31 Dec 2013
Great documentary about the World Championships of Junior Golf at Pinehurst,NC. Some competition as a kid is great, but I think the pressure put on these kids (by their parents and themselves) is more than they need to be learning to deal with at the age of 8.
One of parents actually nails it, but I don't know if he gets what he is actually saying... yes, this experience with golf as a kid should build character and teach them how to win well (sportsmanlike conduct) and deal with loss (managing their emotions) and focus on personal development, but that is easier said when his daughter came in second, in the world, for 8 year olds.
The best part of this whole story is about Zama Nxasama, from South Africa. He is ecstatic about winning "Most Improved Player", having gone from 43rd place in 2011 to 18th in 2012.
