Review of The Shanghai Gesture (1941) by Allan C — 11 Oct 2012
Early example of film noir is full of atmosphere and style under director Josef von Sternberg, but unfortunately the story is pretty dull. Gene Tierney is gorgeous and Walter Huston is fine, but Victor Mature is ridiculously miscast.
It's definitely worth watching for film buffs, but probably not worth watching for the casual viewer.
