Review of The Sessions (2012) by Anthony F — 01 Dec 2012
Well done film for adults and I am not saying x rated adult. This is a movie that will make you both laugh and cry but will ultimately touch you with the spirit that Mark O'Brien brought to being in an iron lung. John Hawkes does much with the role of Mark, who faced life as the true forty year old virgin, filled with anxiety and guilt regarding having sex. Realistically, this would be a tough hurdle for a man who lives his life, as he stated, mostly in his head. Helen Hunt plays the sex surrogate role with needed confidence but also with true humanness. William Macy plays his role well as O'Brien's priest and confidant who provides a source for Mark's feelings about the whole experience.
Good story and strong performances. Take a path away from the usual blockbusters and see this one. Strongly recommended.
