Review of The Sessions (2012) by Chris A — 03 Feb 2013
Where nudity and sex has become a major comedic piece in hollywood or a graphic depiction of rape or some gruesome level, along comes the Sessions and is able to get to the heart of sexual contact. A performance unmatched from Helen Hunt, a sex therapist who is trying to help a polio victim (fantastic job by John Hawkes) lose his virginity and have the ability to understand the pleasure and other feelings associated with sex, is incredibly touching and refreshing.
Though Ms. Hunt is naked for almost the entire film, you never feel like your watching a sex show or some low grade porn film, the nudity becomes a major part of the film and how the characters interact and share their feelings, being so far apart.
Witty and well timed jokes bring this film together for a beautiful film deserving of much more praise.
