Review of The Runaways (2010) by Tiffany D — 17 Jan 2011
Growing up as a kid in the early 80s, Joan Jett was the Rock-n-Roll Queen of my K-Tel scene. It wasn't until years later that I even realized she'd been a part of this history-making band before she begged for another jukebox dime.
The movie tells her story, intertwined with Cherie Curry's, of the band, from formation through its demise. As my most highly anticipated film of 2010, I suppose this condensed version of their story didn't quite hold up to expectations; however, it makes a great companion piece to the rock doc Edgeplay: A Film About the Runaways.
Sigismondi takes you back to that different time and place of the unique 70s scene I enjoyed the experience. Worth watching -- 4 stars.
