Review of The Reader (2008) by Vero S — 10 Feb 2011
I went to see this movie expecting an amazing film, a shocking WWII movie. However, I found something very different and was surprised. It turned out to be even better than I thought it would. Very deep and interesting take on German thoughts about WWII.
It manages to be very moving and touching without taking the war as its main focus. Extremley original movie about a period in history which was been portrayed in films a lot. Its sad and terrible, but at the same time hopeful and beautiful.
.. brilliant movie. Also shows very clearly the extent to which German people had been brain-washed during Hitler's regime. Kate Winslet's acting was amazing, I'm glad she got the Oscar she deserved for this movie.
Wonderful direction, Stephen Daldry never ceases to amaze me, shooting some of my favorite films: first "The Hours" and now this.
