Review of The New Girlfriend (2014) by Laurent P — 20 Mar 2015
Pedro Almodovar meets the French formal perfection in the person of Francois Ozon, and gives us this jewel.
Maybe not the best Ozon's movie, it does not have the rythm of "In the House", for example, rather, on some rare - and very short - moment a semblance - but just a semblance - of boredom sneaks in: however, it may be well kept in full control just by the appreciation of the taste and aesthetic perfection of the formal composition of the images, the lights, the colors, the musical comment (in this Ozon is a - French - master).
No matter what, in the end the movie leaves - it left me - a beautiful feeling, deep in the heart and in the soul, a feeling still lasting the next day, and it seems it is going to last for long.
If art is emotion - and it is - this is art.
