I can't help but admire Emile Hirsch. He's not particularly your typical Hollywood star but he has that oddball charisma that I look for. I also admire him for the movies he choose to participate in.

This film isn't necessarily great. The best thing about it is Emile Hirsch's portrayal of a boy in grief because he lost his mother. Putting the movie aside, he is an interesting character study.

I found myself focusing on his body language, facial expressions, and the things that he says. I could feel his alienation because he couldn't break out of the loneliness and sadness found in his home, his father, and other people.

Sure, many people can be put off by this movie. And that's okay because it IS awkward and "nothing much happens." But if you do decide to watch this film, I only ask you to look a little closer than you normally would.

You may stumble onto something brilliant and cathartic.
