Review of The Monster Squad (1987) by Shmags Z — 30 Oct 2010
"Mummy came in my room." The Monster Squad is the perfect love letter to not just the Universal Monsters (Dracula, The Mummy, Frankenstein's Monster, The Creature, and The Wolf Man) but also my own (and hopefully your) misspent youth collecting ratty VHS tapes, model kits & toys, and reading Famous Monsters of Filmland or Fangoria.
Stan Winston outdoes himself homaging and redesigning the classic beasties, but it's the kids who really shine. I was or knew or wanted to be Sean, Patrick, Phoebe, Eugene, Fat Kid (His Name Is Horace!), and Rudy.
Some may prefer The Goonies, but when the end times come you best join up with The Squad. VF.
