Review of The Loss of a Teardrop Diamond (2008) by Alexandra W — 08 Sep 2010
*** (out of four).
Even a minor work from Tennessee Williams deserves a glance. He was among the most important playwrites of the 20th century. "The Loss of a Teardrop Diamond" is far from his best work, but does offer a hint of what made Williams a force in the entertainment world. Watching it I realised that I miss his style of writing.
Bryce Dallas Howard plays a young debutante who hires a handsome fieldhand (Chris Evans) to be her escort throughout the party season in Memphis.
Howard is pretty good as the fragile southern belle that Williams wrote so much about. Evans does some of his best work, but no one can compare to Ellen Burstyn as the dying head of wealthy family. There is some moments that don't work very well and this is definiately not one of Williams best works, but I still admire him and his way with words and delicate characters.
