Review of The Lifeguard (2013) by Abigail W — 27 Aug 2013
Kirsten Bell does one of her most inspirational performances in this indie summer drama. Bell plays Leigh, a not-quite-30 journalist and former valedictorian who learns that life never turns out as planned. She leaves behind her job in the city to return to her hometown in Connecticut, where she reconnects (get it?) with her past and learns what "growing up" really means.
Director Liz Garcia does a phenomenal job capturing the identity struggles of each character, showing beauty in the chaos and imperfection that seizes people from all ages and walks of life.
I absolutely adored the folk-y soundtrack and the scenery of this movie, too. It was a beautiful film, a must-see in my books!
