Review of The Land Girls (1998) by Richard F — 05 Mar 2008
Most people tend to slate this movie but I think it's got charm.
I'm a city boy but, I adore the countryside and, this movie romanticises it well, especially the 'East Meadow'.
However, I am going to slate it a little bit. This movie could have been a lot more intelligent with such a strong cast in place. It could have demonstrated how tough life on a farm could be back then and how war touched the lives of everyone, not just those on the front line. Instead, it's kind of silly with all three female leads flinging themselves at the farmer's son.
Despite this, I still found it an enjoyable watch (and not just because of the eye candy!). It's the kind of warm, dumbed down movie that should be, and probably will be, shown every Christmas.
