Review of The Kid with a Bike (2011) by Robert B — 03 Apr 2012
âThe Kid with a Bike,â? is the latest film by Belgian brother filmmakers Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne, in their sixth feature ranks up there as their best, which includes a great resume of such titles as âRosettaâ?, âThe Sonâ?, and âL-Enfantâ?.
These brothers rank up there with Clair Denis and Bela Tarr as some of the worldâ(TM)s most renowned film artists. Their style is in the vein of Italian neo-realism, by exploring the livelihoods of ordinary working-class people, âThe Kid with the Bikeâ? is their most emotionally gripping and absorbing film to date.
The film focuses on a lost adolescent and his transformation around the adults in his life, where he must learn self-reliance, choice, and knocking down his own obstacles; this film is a poignant human portrait of personal struggle fighting for self-expression.
