Review of The Glass Slipper (1955) by I'm El Capitano! A — 08 Oct 2008
Oddball version of the oft-filmed tale of Cinderella. Filled with lavish sets, costumes, and surreal dream sequences, The Glass Slipper certainly stands out from the pack for, if nothing else, its dreamlike bizarreness. Leslie Caron is an interesting choice for the heroine, but her performance is unique and quirky. Equally quirky is the delightful Estelle Winwood as the "godmother character who is really the village kleptomaniac. Influences on the fantastic Ever After staring Drew Barrymore as Cinderella can easily be seen.
All in all, The Glass Slipper is a fun way to kill some time, but most kids will find it too odd to enjoy and the extended ballet sequences might try anyone's patience no matter how beautiful the score is (it's VERY beautiful!).
