Review of The Egg and I (1947) by Daniel K — 17 Jan 2010
Cute, if a little long, movie based on the best-selling memoir by Betty Macdonald (of Mrs. Piggle Wiggle fame). Claudette Colbert is the most charming that I've ever seen her. This also marks the first appearance of the Ma and Pa Kettle characters (based on real people, remember), the hillbilly family who went on to star in their own series of movies.
Another bonus: the movie, while still shameful, isn't half as jaw-droppingly racist towards Native Americans as the book.
