Review of The Diving Bell and the Butterfly (2007) by Colleen C — 13 Apr 2009
I want to gush and gush about this film, but I'm taken aback by the fact that I just watched a dubbed version. Apparently Netflix has the English dubbed version on Watch Instantly and they don't warn you that it's dubbed. I spent the first forty five minutes asking myself why I thought it was in French for all this time--um, because it is in French. Ugh, Netflix. I just thought the sound and the picture were slightly off. But moving on.
This is a powerful film. The cinematography is just great. The fact that you don't see Bauby at the beginning of the film really cements the fact that he's locked in his body with no way out. The blinking eyes from his perspective, his fantasy footage, and his memories are all excellent. I highly, highly recommend this film. Make sure you find the right version.
