Review of The Den (2013) by Joseph K — 22 Aug 2014

Incredible movie. This film is one of the scariest I've seen in the realistic feel to it. While some might find its found footage gimmick to be tiresome or annoying, it actually helps build to the suspense and makes everything feel real.

This is scary in that it has some jump scares, but more that this is happening in real life, and proves how scary the internet can be sometimes. The script and direction from Donahue is superb, and the performance from Papalia is strong because it's believable.

She doesn't do anything a normal person wouldn't. She talks to the cops, she continually updates them, and just tries to find both her missing friend and boyfriend. It's not her fault that the people who have them are using their Den accounts to watch her.

Almost all the moves she takes feel real, and that's what helps make this scary and suspenseful.
