Review of The Deal (2005) by Michael T — 01 Mar 2009
A pretty good direct-to-DVD thriller set in a near future USA which is at at war with some sort of "Arab Federation" in the Middle East and gas prices have risen astronomically ($6 a gallon).
Christian Slater plays an investment banker who is charged with putting together a deal in which a U.S. oil company will buy a Russian oil company which has new and productive oil fields in Russia. Or does it? Soon people starting dying and Slater starts unravelling a massive conspiracy.
With Selma Blair, Robert Loggia, and Canuck actor Colm Feore. Angie Harmon looks hot but her part is underwritten. My major complaint is that film has too low a budget to show the effects this extensive war and high gas prices would have on the economy and society.
The film was shot in Vancouver posing as New York.
