Review of The Class (2007) by Chris H — 09 Apr 2009
Worthy of all the kudos it has received, this is a brilliant documentary-like portrayal of a year in a Parisian school. It has as its focal point, the French class taught by a relatively young teacher, who does his best to inspire and educate his young charges. Where it really shines is in the young actors who play the kids and the way in which the film shows the real problems faced by them.
There are no easy answers and as the school year ends, questions remain on the fate of most of the class. Essentially the anti-Dead Poet's Society and all the better for that.
