Review of The Chocolate War (1988) by Jini . — 25 Jul 2007
This is possibly the best adaptation I have ever seen. The grainy grainy harshness of of a film school project and the brillian inspiration of Rober Cormier,s novel by the same name make this a masterpiece.
I think this film was ahead of it's time if it had come in the wake of the Kevin Smith heyday it would have been a huge cult classic. Well worth the watch because it is not like a lot of stuff out there.
Dark, haunting and scary, it is a portrait of how the system can fail you and that bravery and idealism, (in the real world) don't always win the day.
