Review of The Boxer (1997) by Joe M — 23 Jul 2017
Sheridan's film showcases the sheer complexity of both tradition and desire in a hard-hitting tale of redemption. Day-Lewis and Watson are flawless in their respective roles even if the script isn't quite their with the complexities within their own relationship.
However, Day-Lewis in-particularly captures the mortality and psychosis with sheer brilliance. The social commentary is also captured in a very conscious and layered way. The lives of the innocent and the juxtaposition of imagery links very well to the overall tone.
