Review of The Battery (2012) by Jennifer S — 12 Jun 2015
I had been hearing about The Battery for months before I actually saw it, and to be honest, I really don't see what all the fuss is about. It's minimalist in execution and style, and given that it's a low-budget project from a first-time director, I can understand why.
That doesn't make it anymore compelling to me though. The movie is mostly bland, going against many of the reviews about it when it was released, calling it "a refreshingly original take on the genre.
" There's nothing refreshing or original about it. It's basically The Walking Dead, but with a little less drama and a lot more saltier language. This long-dead genre isn't elevated or destroyed by this film at all, and it feels very much like just another modern take that we've seen already.
The acting is decent, the effects are good, but overall, it left me feeling nothing for it really.
