Review of The Assassin (2015) by Deepak M — 21 Jul 2017
I have liked most of the Taiwanese movies I have watched, and this was not an exception. Just like the protagonist of the Santosh Sivan movie 'The Terrorist', a young woman who is sent on a mission to commit a terrible act of violence deviates from her training by considering the potential consequences of her actions.
Two things that make this movie outstanding are art direction (beautiful sets and costumes) and cinematography, featuring breathtaking locales. The flying swordswoman schtick, though, has gotten a bit old.
Despite being slow-moving and artsy, I found this movie to be enjoyable.
