Review of The Art of the Steal (2010) by Angus — 19 May 2011
This is an excellent, thought-provoking documentary about the art world. Following the "take-over" of the Barnes Foundation and its move to Philadelphia (slated for 2012), it considers questions of the permanency of wills, the value of art, the relationship between artists and art collectors, and how the truly wealthy interact with the art world.
It also takes a critical look at "charity" organizations such as Pew, considering how their motivations are also economically motivated.
