Wow! I'd never heard of Basile's fairy tales before but now that I have I want to know more. What a sumptuous, spellbinding, dark feast for the eyes and the soul! Some images and sounds will stay with me for a very long time.
Nothing like the fairy tale fare we are usually served up, these fairytales are violent in the extreme and the usual clear cut distinction between good and evil characters just isn't there. Definitely not for children.
