Review of Synecdoche, New York (2008) by Geoffrey T — 11 Apr 2012
I am speechless. Had I seen this in 2008, this would have been my favorite film of the year. It's incoherent, yet totally accessible. Every scene is inexplicable, causing me to wonder how it even was written in a script.
The motifs are endless, and often require rewinding and pausing. The themes are infinite, touching on everything from art to death to healthcare to determinism to...legitimately everything. The final ten minutes is among the most heartbreaking I've ever witnessed, and should deeply disturb anyone who seeks to be significant in anyway.
I don't know. This is really incoherent babbling, so I'll just end with what Karina told me about this movie, which sums it up quite well. She told me that it made her face everything she wanted to ignore, and it did for me too.
