Review of Sweetgrass (2009) by Jason L — 07 Jan 2011
It's impressive that the filmmakers were able to take a bunch of mostly long shots of sheep and wilderness accompanied by few human voices (and no narration), add in a few conversations between cowboys at varying degrees of audibility and create a compelling movie that tells a story and never feels draggy.
They didn't even tell me exactly what's going on in the movie until the very end and I didn't mind. The movie captured the types of scenes I might go out into nature and stare at and compiled them together so I could watch them in my living room. And there was narrative.
I especially loved the textures, light and colors they were able to get out of the video footage.
