Review of Sunrise at Campobello (1960) by Randi N — 09 Oct 2015
This movie, well-received at its release, is now virtually unwatchable. Garson's impersonation of Eleanor is, at best, an amusing SNL sketch; it's embarrassing as acting. Bellamy is better, but the stagey direction undermines any possibility of genuine empathy for any of these people.
The gold standard for FDR & Eleanor is the Jane Alexander/Edward Hermann TV series.
