Review of Subramaniapuram (2008) by Dhiraj S — 25 Mar 2012
Movie boasts of a well established classic 80s theme of Tamilnadu showing the hippy hairstyle trend among men, tight full-sleeved checked shirts with bell bottom trousers, etc that prevailed in the 80s.
Story is about a few casual youths careless about job, life, etc. who spend the whole day at a usual joint at the street corner and how they get lured into serious crimes. Movie has a great climax and effortlessly manages to grip the audience till the end.
Personally, I feel, Subramaniapuram is among the best tamil movies. However, a tamilian will thoroughly understand and enjoy the language used by the actors, the choice of words, expressions, etc. and other nuances which belong only to a particular community.
People of other cultures may also enjoy the movie but not as much as a tamilian would, because, there are certain things in a movie which cannot be translated in subtitles and this movie has a lot of them.
