Review of Strangerland (2015) by Collin H — 09 Jul 2015
I'm sort of surprised at the negative reviews. Yes, this movie is not for everyone...the pacing is a bit slow and the storyline could certainly be tighter. But, man, the acting and the atmosphere here is top notch and more than makes up for the other deficiencies. Nicole Kidman's descent into half-madness under the most trying of circumstances is a slow, seamless burn and worth the price of admission alone. Amazing panorama cinematography of the Australian outback complements the dreamy, torpid tone of the film and provides a stark backdrop for the more primal, inscrutable manifestations of human behavior.
A surprisingly tender message underlies the bleakness in the end...definitely compelling.
