Review of Stockholm (2019) by Elannfrancis — 20 May 2019
From start to finish, Stockholm is a wild ride through the historical event that inspired the term “stockholm syndrome.” The movie sells its “absurd” premise completely, navigating the line between comedy and suspense expertly.
What really did the most for me was the performances, especially from Ethan Hawke and Noomi Rapace, whose peculiar romance really reinforces the effects of the aforementioned syndrome. Hawke really steals the show, as he’s usually typecast in serious roles, but here, his comedic timing and charm make him such a standout character, and despite the gravity of the crime he’s committing, is still the one you root for all the way till the end.
I would highly recommend this film for anyone who enjoys a Tarantino-esque romp or for anyone who enjoys a good dark comedy.
