Review of Spriggan (1998) by Late R — 01 Sep 2018
Whilst the premise has some interesting elements and the animation is pretty nice, something that's especially apparent during the thrilling action sequences where the film shines, overall, it does feel like its reach exceeds its grasp considerably.
The story is just too scattered and it doesn't do a good job of making sense of things, nor are the characters or their dialogue well-written (the main villain is particularly stupid and inexplicable) leading them to feel incredibly thin and one-dimensional.
In the end, it feels quite pointless and you realise they couldn't make you care for anything or anyone. Still, if you're going to watch this, do it for the action sequences which, thankfully, are fairly numerous.
