Review of Spaceship Earth (2020) by Jaylevin — 15 May 2020
My choice for the Academy award for Best documentary this year. A beautifully made film that is a multi-dimensional experience about a multii-dimensional event - the creation of the extraordinary experiment in closed-system living in Tucson's Bioshere 2 during the 1990s.
Absolutely gripping and fresh from start to finish. Simply not been a film like this. The people are in many ways as remarkable as the event itself, providing a prism on the highest human aspirations for sane creative living that might make a tremendous difference to humankind, while at the same time showing up with the human flaws that created the conditions they sought to address.
So there's beauty, inspiration, wisdom, vision, heart, plenty of drama and a chunk of self-realization ignited by the Biosphere 2 tribe and the sweet art of filmmaker Matt Wolf.
