Review of Some Things That Stay (2004) by Zarinah H — 30 Jan 2008
A surprisingly well-told and credibly acted coming of age story. Katie Boland plays a teenage girl on the cusp of womanhood who is tired of constantly moving with her painter father, bohemian mother and younger siblings.
They find a new home amongst a conservative community, and the mother falls ill with tuberculosis. Amidst the chaos, the young girl grapples with difficult issues such as faith in God, attaining maturity, boys etc - all told with sensitivity and poignancy.
