Review of Some Kind of Hate (2015) by Keith A — 06 Nov 2015
I think I liked this. It was about overcoming fear just as much as it was about bullying and bullies. As much as it hurts to be bullied, its equally painful to return violence with violence, which is why Moira hurt herself in order to inflict pain on her tormentors.
Violent reciprocation is futile and meaningless: it only fuels anger, vengeance, and pain. I'm not sure what to make of the martyred conclusion? On the one hand Lincoln defeats Moira by displaying courage that notably contrasts with his earlier cowardice, but on the other hand, his stand is an act of suicide.
It could be read as a sacrificial gesture, almost Christly, but I think the film is suggesting something more troubling and ultimately inevitable?
