Review of Solitary Man (2009) by Waldo I — 06 Jul 2010
The strength of this film comes from it's smart and dialogue-driven script. And it takes a group of strong, dedicated actors like these to breathe life and honesty into those speaking. Michael Douglas leads the ensemble well, but his support is also perfection.
Jenna Fischer plays her strugglingly strong character well, and Imogen Poots plays her rather volatile character with just the right subtlety to make her character turns a surprise. Mary-Louise Parker and Susan Sarandon also turn in quiet yet smart performances.
But the biggest gravitas go to David Koppelman for writing so many realistic and flowing scenes of talk to reveal character instead of using the typical character journey for discovery. Well wether seeing for a thespian fix.
