Review of Small Change (1976) by Erulisse A — 10 Apr 2011
One of the sweetest movies I've ever seen. I think is a much more complete exploration of childhood than, for example, 400 blows, also from Tuffaut, because it shows different kids of different ages and from different backgrounds and different situations, and in that way it almost plays like a documentary of these kids' lives.
The final speech before the summer does seem a bit slapped on with political messages, but somehow it works. Every kid character here is adorable. And you can really notice here Truffaut's respect and genuine love for children and childhood. Growing up was a big part of his main themes.
Also, big props to him for having the guts to work with so many kids on set.
Just Beautiful.
