Review of Shampoo (1975) by Elliot G — 24 Nov 2008
A fun, colorful film with fun performances from Beatty, Christie, and especially Goldie Hawn. It's really about the chickens of 60s free-love excess coming (ahem) home to roost as America moved into the 70s.
Beyond that it's a mild farce with some memorable scenes, notably the 'who's the best cocksucker' scene and Beatty/Christie's love scenes in the steam room and refrigerator-lit townhouse.
What's interesting is that this movie is basically a romantic comedy without romance or a happy ending. Deep down we all know this film would not be made like that today.
