Review of Seoul Searching (2015) by Lycia N — 21 Feb 2016
If teen melodrama is your thing, then you might enjoy Seoul Searching. It borrows heavily from the John Hughes cannon, but is bogged down by uneven performances and an air of self importance. There are moments of pure teen awkwardness and a couple good fights, however, director Benson Lee seems to be trying to manufacture a genuine 80s teen dramedy and as a result has created a highly artificial film that is missing the heart of the Hughes films.
It's too bad, because the subject matter had great potential for a truly great teen comedy. Unfortunately Seoul Searching is trying a bit too hard to be iconic and therefore fails to be more than slightly amusing.
