Review of Seabiscuit (2003) by Steve H — 29 Dec 2009
Shannon's Amazon review is right on. Excellent acting. Visually polished. A solid family film, a bit like "Hallmark Hall of Fame.".
As last year's "Million Dollar Baby," it gives a feel for the Great Depression, and another underdog champ that gave people hope. Director Ross says that the three great 1930's sports were boxing, horse racing, and baseball. I think golf was fourth, with it's own inspiring heroes, recently cinemized.
Tobey Macguire's performance certainly breaks him free of the iconic Spider-Man persona.
Rated PG-13 for maybe 5 bad words in the whole show, and more hard, grown up experience than young kids could deal with.
