Review of Scum (1979) by Tony C — 19 Oct 2007
Well, this is a film not for the faint hearted. Not for the gore, but for the real grittyness of it all. Written by Roy Minton, directed by Allen Clarke, Scum tells the story over a 6 month period of the events in a youth detention centre in the south east of England.
Although Carlin (Rey Winston) enters after being transferred from Rowley for hitting an officer, and appears to be the central charactor, it is in fact Davis, who endures the hardest time and thus we get an insight to the brutal world of the centre.
From its bent screws to the daddy, pongo banks. An absolute classic and well recommended.
