I loved this movie. I can definitely relate. Not the whole gay boyfriend thing, but the whole thing about teen pregnancy and sex before marriage thing being horrible. I honestly don't think it's bad, as long as the mother is a decent person who takes care of her kids.
I think this movie has a great lesson to it.
