Review of Rosewater (2014) by Steven B — 22 Nov 2014

This is Jon Stewart's first directorial effort and the Old Geezers Who Go To The Matinee Alone showed up in force. Unfortunately that means those OGWGTTMAs who only go once or twice a year and think they are sitting on the couch at home talking to the television.

But I've learned to stop at least some of it with glares and loud sighs of exasperation. For a first film it is amazingly sophisticated. However sometimes the film 'tricks' get too much hence the reason for 4 stars; otherwise it is easily a 5 star movie.

The idea is a Iranian born but western journalist is taken prisoner, accused of being a spy, and held for 4 months. The interplay between the journalist and his interrogator is most of the movie. The film moves smartly along and they outcome, although known, is satisfying and leaves you feeling pretty good.

All in all a good movie, highly recommended.
